12 May 1903 Visit Japanese warships
On 12 May 1903 six hundred officers and men from the visiting Japanese squadron of warships landed at Largs Bay. At Port Adelaide Rear Admiral Kamimura and twenty principal officers were greeted by the Mayor who spoke of the Japanese alliance with Britain and of the friendship enjoyed between the two nations. This was an assurance of peace in the world.
The naval group later paraded through the streets of Adelaide. The South Australian Government entertained the visitors at the Exhibition Building and in the afternoon a garden party was held at Government House.
The fleet sailed next day.
