The Lower North of South Australia – a short history (201 KB)

This ‘Regional history’ written by Susan Marsden was part 1.4 of the report Heritage of the Lower North prepared by John Dallwitz and Susan Marsden (Heritage Investigations). The published report presents a summary of a survey of heritage items and areas in South Australia’s Lower North during 1981-2 and reflects the scholarship and information available in that period. This study was the first of the regional surveys conceived in Marsden’s State Historic Preservation Plan: Historical guidelines (1980). That report provided guidelines for the regional surveys by heritage consultants and Heritage Branch staff that covered all of the incorporated areas of South Australia between 1981 and 2000.

The author acknowledges and thanks her report co-authors and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for permission to reproduce this history.
