Bobby Limb was born in Adelaide on 10 November 1924 and first learnt music as the Adelaide College of Music; he played saxophone. By 1948 he was the youngest band leader in Australia and made his first recording in 1950. In 1953 he married Dawn Lake and the same year was appointed Musical Director of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation and later performed at the London Palladium and for the BBC. He is probably best known for his televised shows: ‘The Bobby Limb Show’ and later ‘The Sound of Music’ on the Channel 9 network, which ran from 1957-69. In 1971 he was named ‘Mr Showbiz’. He was a member of the Australian Tourist Commission, member of the Bicentennial Arts and Entertainment Advisory Committee and a Director of Life Be In It. He was recognised for his work with an OBE. He died in 1999.
